ACEA and Electronic Waste Africa are collaborating on the second E-waste days event in Abidjan from April 10th to 11th, 2025.
This year’s event will feature two new major developments :
The E-Waste Academy which will provide structured training to informal waste workers, helping them professionalize and adopt internationally recognized recycling practices.
A single web portal which will serve as a centralized tool for the entire e-waste data lifecycle—collection, processing, and validation. This portal will streamline decision-making, enhance practices, and optimize investments within the sector.

ACEA was invited to speak at a webinar organized by Switch Asia on the topic “Turning knowledge hubs into circular economy transition facilitators.”
The Alliance was represented by its co-chair, Mr. Kgauta Mokoena, who emphasized the importance of ACEA’s "5 big bets" report. He pointed out the strong data and practical insights helping establish an inclusive and successful circular economy across Africa this report provides.

Africa needs to take strong action to address the growing threat of plastic pollution, especially as populations grow and cities expand. This has led to a rise in using plastic packaging, resulting in growing piles of plastic in the environment. However, Africa’s plastic recycling rate is just 6%, which is far below the global average of 9%. A staggering 64% of plastic waste is mismanaged, well above the global average of 22%. These alarming statistics highlight the urgent need for action.
To address this issue, the Global Plastic Pollution Treaty could play a crucial role in promoting collaboration and innovation, ultimately helping Africa achieve a zero-waste, sustainable plastic environment. Thus, it is crucial for Africa to reflect on the importance this treaty and the opportunities emerging from it, despite the lack of agreement at this stage. • By uniting efforts and embracing innovation, Africa can effectively tackle the challenge of plastic pollution, which will be the main focus of this webinar.
